Continuing from the last letter regarding US politics, this letter will discuss some of the favorite sins of the US right.
Again, we are referring to the US "political right", along with the collective ideology that it puts forth, also known as its "platform" or positions. We are not referring to any given individuals, for the reasons stated in the previous letter.
Perhaps the oddest thing about the US right is that it is made up of various groups that might not get along too well in social settings; but they all belong to the right because it's the default position for those who have one thing in common: hatred of the left.
Three of the bigger groups on the right (but not the only ones) include:
1) the rich (the right's "version" - those who don't even pretend they want to share any wealth)
2) gun owners (mostly legal gun owners, that is)
3) people who claim out loud to believe in God, even if very few of them act like it.
Beginning with the rich on the right, it's true: they don't lie like the outspoken rich on the left who pretend they want to share (more than a "why-bother" pittance of) their wealth with the rest of society (if only the government would force them to pay more in taxes!).
No, the rich on the right have no such pretense. In fact, it's quite the opposite: in their hearts and actions, they vehemently resent the idea that those who make more should pay an increasing tax percentage over those who make less. And not only do they resent such reasonable fairness, they actively seek to pay as little as possible, even zero if they can get away with it.
Truly, how often do the rich, especially (but not only) those on the right, pay a lesser tax percentage than hard-working wage-earners ? And why are so many categories of unearned income, such as investments, not considered "normal income", but are instead taxed at lower rates ? And why are there so many other tax "loopholes" for the rich to exploit ? It's because the rich seek to get out of paying their reasonable share to the very society that has enriched them that they have these rules made for themselves.
Now one might ask, "How could someone live in such a state of unconscionable behavior ?"
The short answer is that no one could, unless they have sold their soul.
And the rich do just that, by repeatedly de-humanizing the un-rich in their hearts until their callousness toward the un-rich blocks all sense of a common humanity. That is why, to the rich on the right, the un-rich are considered a disposable nuisance.
Truly, the rich on the US right will not be happy until all the un-rich in the USA are either enslaved (to maintain a bare subsistence), or more preferably to the rich, dead (especially if an un-rich person receives more money in governmental services than they provide).
Of course, the rich on the right also believe the lie that an unregulated, capitalist "free" market surpasses all forms of planning and cooperation, even as they fool themselves into ignoring greed's destruction to everything under the sun, and perhaps to the sun itself. They truly could not care less if humanity and the Earth is destroyed, as long as they can accumulate more than "those other people".
With unbound selfishness, they worship their idols of "money" and "luxury", and sear their consciences shut.
By putting their faith in riches instead of in God, they also willfully put off any thoughts of their own death, eternity, or judgement.
But regardless of whether death occurs to them or not, the rich do die just like the rest of us... later in many cases, but just as surely.
And they will also be judged just like the rest of us:
"You cannot serve God and mammon." - Jesus in Matthew 6:24
"He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?" - Jesus in Luke 16:10-11
"For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" - Jesus in Matthew 16:26
"Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." - Jesus in Mark 10:24-25
Jesus could not make it more clear than that: If we gain the whole world, we lose our own soul. Forever.
The rich will never defeat God.
Now, the next group on the USA right to be discussed is gun owners. By this, we mostly mean those who legally own guns; because when the US left talks about "gun control", especially on a national level, they are almost always pointing to gun owners on the right, and therefore to the control of (usually) legally-owned firearms. The left often "shields its base" by failing to discuss - in equal terms - the control of the illegally-owned weaponry that is often used in crimes by many who might be more inclined to vote "left" than "right".
That said, the left's passion on the topic is rooted in the fact that guns are killing machines. And so the left cannot understand the right's zeal for owning these instruments of death, or for guaranteeing their availability to society at large. The left especially cannot understand the right's insistent "need" for handguns, or for semi-automatic or assault-type weapons that can also carry many bullets; because in truth, those types of guns were really only invented for killing humans. No one is golfing or hammering in nails with an M16.
Is the left wrong in this regard ? Of course not. Because for every hyped-up story about some pistol-packing citizen supposedly saving a life by defending some innocent by the use of his firearm, there are many thousands upon thousands of untimely-demise incidents that prove exactly why having an instrument of death at one's disposal, which in truth serves no other purpose, is not a good idea.
Even so, the fact remains that since the left hates even the idea of these killing machines, most gun owners, by default, therefore flock to the right, lest they should lose what they obviously hold dear.
But why... why... why do gun owners on the right hold their guns so dear ?
It's because, to them, their guns are much more than just a weapon. Like money to the rich, guns to a gun owner are also an idol, similarly gratifying the owner's strong desire for a feeling of "control", "importance", or "power", whether over other beings, or even over life itself. Few earthly objects can take one from feelings of being controlled, unimportant, or powerless to feelings of being a (supposed) god who holds the power of life or death in their hands. Such lusts are like a steak to a pit bull; whether money to the rich, or a gun to a gun owner, the only way to take the object of their lust away from them is to literally pry it from their lifeless hands.
It's sad because, by simply having a right relationship with God and Jesus in Love and Truth instead, one is actually enabled to cast out all such pride, and life-stealing fears, and to no longer grasp for worthless earthly idols as a substitute for God's True Power in their life.
But instead of the True Freedom found in Faith in God, and simple contentment in His provision and protection, we find the vast majority of human beings (not just gun owners) imprisoned by a fruitless search for their worth among the earthly, and also in reaction to others.
Be that as it may, gun owners, whether they own a rifle for hunting deer, a handgun as supposed "security" against an unseen enemy, or any other type of gun, will not be giving up the objects of their (imagined) "version of freedom" any time soon. And any suggestion that even high-capacity, assault-weapon killing machines should be outlawed will make them fearful that the guns they own are next.
"Yes, but what about gun owners on the US right who rightfully don't trust that their government has their citizens' best interests in mind ? Don't they need to keep their right to form militias to defend themselves against ever-worsening leadership in their capital ?"
It all depends on whether one actually believes in God, His Son, and His Word or not.
If anyone on the right can imagine Jesus Christ forming an armed militia to bring a current, earthly, governing power to heel, then they are not Believers. For in fact, the Son of God did not do that, and therefore neither should we. Jesus Himself lived in Roman-occupied Israel. Did He ever rebel against Roman rule ? No. He simply converted as many Romans as He could while He was here, setting the Perfect Example that there is no point to living in fear or hostility and ruining decades of our short life for no reason, when it's infinitely better to be a True Believer and preach the Word of God in one's current circumstances, in order to bear fruit and help all who will listen.
Simply put, a person cannot imitate Jesus Christ as long as they continue acting like Barabbas.
"Now wait just a minute. If the USA didn't fight in World War II, we'd all be speaking German right now !"
Maybe. Doubtful. Even if so, the German occupiers would have needed converting as well. Or, if they just wanted to kill us at random for awhile, it would still be better to have a right relationship with God and to know we'll be going to Heaven upon the Resurrection at the Last Day, than to live an earthly existence of constant inner-fears, turmoil, and reaction, only to burn at the End along with the rest.
That said, after the occupying Germans (perhaps) killed all the people they didn't feel they had control over, most of the occupiers probably would have just assimilated to the "culture" of the USA, thereby ending up as faithless, hopeless, and lost in all sins as the overwhelming majority of the rest of the nation's inhabitants and leaders. The new boss would have been little different than the old.
"But wait another minute. Aren't we allowed to even defend ourselves ?"
Who are all these people we're supposedly defending ourselves from ? If the USA would ever, or even now, have acted even remotely Christ-like in the least, we'd have many, many fewer enemies. And to any enemies whom we did have, we'd be much better examples, serving God's purposes instead of our own.
"But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
"But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful." - Jesus in Luke 27-36
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me." - Jesus in Luke 9:23
"So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." - Jesus in Luke 14:33
And that brings us to the final group on the US right for our discussion purposes: religious hypocrites who pretend to be Jesus' disciples, but who prove otherwise by their persistent, willful failure to deny "self", or truly, to forsake much of anything at all, including sin.
Let's be clear: waving a Bible around does NOT make one a disciple of Jesus Christ.
To be a disciple of Jesus Christ, one must actually do what Jesus teaches.
"But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?" - Jesus in Luke 6:46
To note, yes, there are many religious hypocrites on the left too, even amidst the vast numbers of other God-hating types on the left.
And just like them, the religious hypocrites on the right also deceive themselves with a false version of religion that's derived by attempts to add to, subtract from, or twist God's Word, in an effort to justify their sin-filled personal desires and political positions.
But the religious hypocrites on the right differ from those the left in that:
(1) their preferred sins do not match (not that both sides don't sin all sins... it's mostly their "declared priority order" that differs), and
(2) many of the so-called "religious" people on the right are more willing to boldly proclaim their supposed-belief in God and His Word.
Now, proclaiming one's belief in God and His Word is a good thing; unless their stated belief is revealed as a lie because they continue in willful sin. And sadly, that's what too many of the so-called "religious" on the right do... prove themselves to be liars and hypocrites.
While the vast majority of religious hypocrites on the left would never even mention God or Jesus in conversation (because they refuse to believe the Bible is actually God's Word, lest they would have to repent, forgive others, and cease their own willful sins), it is this "speaking their belief out loud, but also not doing" by the religious hypocrites on the US right that makes their hypocrisy glow in neon.
And even worse, their hypocrisy tempts many others to use it as a cheap - but unjustified - excuse to hate and remain away from God.
Yet, God still happens to Love those "many others" too. And He also wants them to come to Him through Jesus Christ and be Saved.
So God does not need "religious" hypocrites, who do not truly know or keep His Word, offending others unrighteously.
Regardless of politics, a person does absolutely zero for God and Jesus if they claim to believe in God's Word, the Bible, and yet they do not truly read the Word for themselves. Because as easy as Jesus' teachings are to read and understand, those who refuse to do so - for themselves - will surely never keep His Word. If one does not even have a heart for the easy-to-know, how much less anything more ?
"Yes, but don't churches preach the Word ? Why do I have to read It ?"
First of all, because it's a cure for the personal laziness that underlies a lack of sincerity toward God and His Word. But also, because at least 98% of today's churches are poison pits that preach toxic doctrines; and only people who read God's Word can tell the difference.
Now, as a reminder, a main reason that religious hypocrites on the US right choose the right is because their preferred sins differ from those of the left, beginning with the right's repulsion of the vast immorality, permissiveness, and destruction of the foundation of family that's promoted by the left. And in their repulsion (which even Satan would have to admit is justified), they retreat to the right, even though the right is also filled with sins, which, apparently, the right's religious hypocrites find easier to either ignore or condone.
To them, they are choosing the lesser of two evils. But again, with fingers pointed toward the US left, the religious hypocrites on the US right also continue to ignore their own evil, that of not ceasing their own willful, preferred sins, even though they boldly proclaim to believe in God. And by their glowing hypocrisy, they do more harm to God's Kingdom than if they never claimed to believe in God at all.
Let's face it, if they truly believed in God and Jesus, they would Love Them and keep Their Word. And if they kept God's Word, they could in no way continue to be hypocrites, acting against the very Word they claim to believe in. Instead, they would repent, forgive others, and keep God's Commandments, thereby Loving others enough to be True examples as followers of Jesus Christ.
(Note to the left: "Loving others" does not include approving of the underlying activities of the left's alphabet-soup of perversions. After all, God's Love for people is not the approval of sin, but the opposite. And like it or not, it is only God Who gets to define what sin is.)
Of course, those who truly keep God's Word see the sins of both the left and the right, and remain as far away from politics as possible, just like Jesus did. They know it doesn't matter who gets elected, because the world is headed for destruction, and Satan is currently pulling the strings of whomever is in power, whether they are supposedly on the right or the left.
(Note to the right: If one finally does decide to get away from the screaming-pit-of-iniquity called "politics", forever withholding all support from either side and voting for neither, they should not be evil by attempting to then "get away from all things governmental", as in "stealing from the government by refusing to pay further taxes". In Matthew 17:24-27, Jesus paid His taxes. And in Mark 12:17, Jesus taught regarding taxes: "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s." Therefore, do not offend by acting unrighteously, by not paying due tax; but at the same time, always give to God your heart, soul, mind, and strength.)
Now, the US right does have many more sins we could discuss; but as with the US left, it's too disheartening to continue contemplating them. The three groups discussed in this letter are certainly not the only sin-filled groups on the US right, but just some of the largest. The other groups on the US right can include almost any willful sinners consumed by, and acting out of, their own pride, fears, hatred, faithlessness, selfishness, and lusts; and of course, who also disagree with, or hate, either the left or "big government" in general.
(One can almost hear the left screaming at this point, "Yes, but WHAT ABOUT THE RACISTS !?", the reply to which is, "Which racists... the ones on the right, or on the ones on the left ?" The "racists" on the US right of whom the left scream are included in the description of the "other groups" in the paragraph above. That said, what is it called when the left's own, whether they're on the street or in power, look down upon, hate, demonize, oppress, sanction, or kill people, either directly or indirectly; and not only in the US, but also around the world, including peoples of all skin types (including whites) and in many nations ? Or is the left's hypocrisy better than the right's ? When those on the US left stop seeing a Muslim woman in a head covering crying for her dead family members who were killed by a US bomb or US-supported terrorists as uncivilized and less than a dog (as those on the US right also currently think of such an image; and as so many in the US also thought of the Vietnamese in Vietnam, or anyone on the "other side" of any US-provoked conflict, past or present), then the US left will have the right to ask the question above.)
The hypocrisy of US left notwithstanding, this letter was about the sins of the US right. And frankly, being too many to list, this letter must now end. Plus, it's quite longer than the "sins of the US left" letter, so any accusations of partiality should be muted. (Not to mention that those on the right are unlikely to whine about that.)
In closing, let's again remind ourselves that consensus preferences and positions of a collective group, such as the US left or right, more often than not do not form an exact profile of a given person within that group; for many might agree with some of the group's positions, while disagreeing with other positions. Just because a given person might vote for a group they lean toward, it rarely means they agree with everything the group is about; they might just as often vote against a group whose values they identify with even less.
The above statement is particularly true of the US right, since it's essentially made up of dissimilar groups who flock to the right as a haven against the US left. Thus, the US right acts mostly as a "catch-all" for any groups that are willing to vote for them, or more especially, against the left. For example, many Wall-Streeters wouldn't want to live next door to a gun owner, or anywhere near a Bible (hypocritical owner or not). But you won't see "Wall-Streeters Against Guns and Bibles" signs anytime soon. They still all vote together.
Until Next Time, In Love and Truth,
Born and Raised in the USA
